Kinetic sculpture has been my passion for over thirty years. Through my work I explore ideas of relationship and balance via the ever-changing dance of abstract space and form, color and motion, light and shadow. I am deeply concerned about the imbalance we have created in our environment and in our society, and am increasingly aware of the interconnectedness of all things.
My workshop, in the Green Mountains of northern Vermont, affords me solitude to develop my work. A new sculpture starts with drawing and model building. The piece takes form with welding, cutting, bending, boring, grinding and polishing -- all the metalworking processes.
Propelled by wind or by touch, the kinetic sculptures dance in space and time. The non-moving sculptures participate in the dance with implied movement. They stimulate a closer look at the inhabited space, at relationships, balance and movement. The effect is to merge thoughts and feelings as we join into the dance.
